Welcomed and Sent: Maggie Proctor Joins Catholic Noles

Maggie Proctor, our newest member of Catholic Noles’ FOCUS missionary team, is new to Catholic Noles—but not new to the kind of faith that grows through friendship, discipleship, and a determined “yes” repeated day after day.
Originally from Mobile, Alabama, Maggie grew up in a close-knit Catholic community where faith was woven into everyday life. “My family, we never missed Sunday Mass,” she shared. Prayer and tradition were steady constants, but when Maggie arrived at the University of Alabama to study accounting, she realized something was missing. “I didn’t really understand what a personal relationship was,” she said.

That began to change when her mom sent her a link to a freshman retreat through Bama Catholic. Maggie went, signed up for a Bible study, and found herself in a FOCUS-led group. What followed wasn’t an overnight transformation, but something deeper. Through mentorship and invitation, Maggie’s faith deepened.
“My Bible study leader taught me what a personal relationship with Jesus could look like…,” she said. “Between those women investing in me, I stopped seeing my faith as something I had to do and started seeing it as something I wanted to do.”

One Scripture passage became central to her journey: Mark 10:49—Take courage, get up, He is calling you. “It’s very blunt, very honest,” Maggie said. “And I think that’s what I like—He’s not calling the best person you can think of. He wants you.” That call eventually led her to become a missionary herself.

Now in her first full-time assignment at Florida State University, Maggie is struck by the vitality of Catholic Noles. She describes a ministry where missionaries and students “meld together,” and where discipleship is spreading quickly. “The missionaries are discipling like 10 or 12 people,” she noted, “and then each of those people is discipling others. It’s a lot—which is why I’m here — because the mission is growing and needs more help.”

Maggie met many Catholic Noles students at SEEK and immediately felt at home. “I just felt so welcomed,” she said. “I was like, ‘They really want me to be here.’” While SEEK is a powerful mountaintop moment, she sees her role as helping students carry that grace back into everyday campus life.

Her hope for students is simple and expansive: “That they feel comfortable coming through the doors — not thinking they have to already have it all together… and that they’re open to God’s will and to the idea that there’s more to life than achievements or titles.”

For Maggie, success isn’t measured by numbers. “It’s seeing mindset changes — people choosing prayer instead of complaining, turning to God when things are hard, growing in confidence to live their faith.”
When asked how the community can pray for her, Maggie answered simply: perseverance and fortitude—especially when ministry feels discouraging. And to donors and supporters, her message is heartfelt: “Thank you. Prayer is so much more powerful than anything else. We truly can’t do this without you.”

And in return, she wants you to know: Catholic Noles is praying for you, too.
