In Her Presence:
A Marian Garden Takes Root at the Co-Cathedral

“After that, he saith to the disciple: behold thy mother. And from that hour, the disciple took her to his own,” (John 19:27).

Inspired by a spirit of charity and admiration, the Service Team, here at the Catholic Student Union (CSU), had decided to build a Marian Garden for the parish of Co-Cathedral of St.Thomas Moore. This Marian Garden would come to include a set of flowers, wooden garden arch-set up by the students, stone stool, and a statue in membrane of our Holy Mother. Built for the purpose of prayer and veneration, the Marian Garden is designed for the offering of many rosaries and personal intentions, not only for the students of CSU but also for all other parishioners and Tallahassee locals.

When asked what excited her most about the Mary Garden, Emma B. Brockman, a Junior studying Music Therapy, answered:

“I am excited for the Mary Garden to be done so that we will have a beautiful place to honor Mary outside. I think I’ll pray a lot of rosaries there!”

With the natural light of the sun, alongside the many songs of birds and moving wind, the Marian prayer area will offer the students a serene place for deep prayer. Located directly to the left of the main church’s steps, this piece of land is open to all, and at all times of the day. From those who find themselves in a hasty commute and want to offer a short moment of prayer, to those who desire a long dedicated time of prayer and admiration for our Heavenly Mother, this garden more than suffices all needs and desires of the devout.

Matt Leubke, a senior majoring in Engineering, when asked what the Mary Garden means to him answered:

“I think having a place like the Mary garden to pray at helps to be more present and intentional with God.”

In a modern world filled with internal commotion and unrest, this small piece of land will offer safe haven for young adults navigating through the spring of their lives. A project that will bring students and local parishioners together in voice of prayer, offering all kinds of gifts to the Lord through our Mother, Mary.
